On January 9, a great film director of the 20th century, Sergei (Sarkis) Parajanov marks his birthday. Peoples Artist of the Ukrainian SSR, Peoples Artist of Armenian SSR, a deceased genius, who has received many awards both at national and international level, who was born and worked in Tbilisi, would celebrate his 92nd birthday.

On January 9, 2016, a visit to Sergei Parajanov’s monument, which is erected in a trading row (Bambis Rigi) named Mantashev Rows, was arranged. Employees of the Diocese, young activists of the Youth Department and the “Surb Grigor Narekatsi” (“Saint Gregory of Narek”) Saturday School’s students bowed to the memory of the famous artist, by decorating Parajanov’s monument with his favorite pomegranates and flowers.

Very Rev. Father Khoren Hovhannisyan, Pastor of Kvemo Kartli region at the Armenian Diocese in Georgia prayed for the repose of the soul of Sergei Parajanov. The Director of the Hayartun Center, Levon Chidilyan, and Press Secretary of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, Susanna Khachaturyan delivered speeches; they spoke about the talent and works of the world-famous film director, highlighting his contributions to the development of world cinema. Indeed, Sergey Parajanov belongs not only to his nation, but has become an eminent figure of the universal art.

Decoration of the film director’s monument with pomegranates and red carnations was a bow to the memory of the immortal Sergei Parajanov.
