Tbilisi Public school № 104 (the School Principal, Irina Zhamkochyan) is an educational institution in Georgia teaching in Armenian, which has a rich history and wonderful traditions. To ensure education in Armenian and to educate children as an Armenian is the school’s (also famous as the Vank Cathedral School) top priority. It is a matter of great honor and pride to be a student of this school.

In a few months after the beginning of the academic year the school’s Board of Students' Self-Governance, headed by School management, basing on excellent academic performance and good daily behavior, has already two years in a row conferred status of the 104 school student.

On November 3, 2015, a commencement dedicated to this exemplary tradition took place at Tbilisi Public school № 104. During the event the first-graders sang the school anthem, they were acting, singing , dancing and reciting poems, which earned a thunderous applause from the audience and praise of the guests, teachers and parents. The Armenian Embassy’s cultural attaché Elina Mkrtchyan, the Editor of the “Vrastan” Newsletter (“Georgia”) Van Baiburtyan, the School Principal, Irina Zhamkochyan and others spoke about how well-educated and well-behaved the children are.

At the end of the commencement, the Very Rev. Father Khoren Hovhannisyan, Pastor of the Armenian communities in the Marneuli District of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, blessed the people present and gave his opinion. The Very Rev. Father Khoren transmitted to the school management, parents and students the blessing from the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia. In his speech, Father Khoren noted the importance of Armenian school and knowledge of Armenian, particularly saying: “Our mother tongue is one of our greatest treasures. Our forefathers have added the word “mother” to the names of our sanctuaries: Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, Mother Church, Mother Araks, Mother Cathedral, and finally mother language. Special attitude towards our precious language has accompanied our people over the course of history; we should be aware of it and be proud of it.” Father Khoren urged the parents and students to preserve St. Mesrop Mashtots heritage, and ended his speech with the words of His Holiness Karekin I, Catholicos of All Armenians, of Blessed Memory: “Our language is the path to eternity, the guarantee of national identity preservation, Noah’s ark of salvation.”

The members of the school’s Board of Students' Self-Governance presented the first-graders with student certificate and urged them with dignity and honor to bear the title of the student of Tbilisi Public school № 104.
