Early in the morning on the 1st of November, 2015, the Saint Gevorg Cathedral was crowded with faithful. The Armenian community of Tbilisi came to attend the Holy Mass, celebrated by the Right Rev. Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia at a newly consecrated church on Sunday.

The faithful attending Divine Liturgy could not hide their admiration for the unique beauty of the church.

The Primate offered a homily during the church service. Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan spoke about the events in the margins of the opening and reconsecration services for the Saint Gevorg Cathedral on October 30-31. His Grace acknowledged the difficult, time-consuming and painstaking work carried out by the architect-restorers and organizers, workers and repairers, builders and renovation experts. The Primate was impressed with skills of the Saint Gevorg Church choir, lead by Svetlana Tatoeva, His Grace highly appreciated the united around the Church young volunteers’ assistance and support, expressed his gratitude to the diocesan clergy, officials and staff who with great responsibility and willingness performed their duties.

The Primate of the diocese called on the faithful to visit both churches operating in Tbilisi, because both places of worship heed our requests and prayers, for many years providing spiritual food, taking care and uniting the Armenians of Georgia.

Following the church services, the first wedding ceremony was conducted in the Saint Gevorg Cathedral. By the will of God two young renovation experts, David Hovhannisyan and Ashkhen Papyan, who have restored the frescoes of the Saint Gevorg Cathedral, fell in love while working together and decided upon project completion to create a family, they promised to get married in the renovated Saint Gevorg Church. Under the arches of renovated newly consecrated Saint Gevorg Cathedral Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan performed a wedding ceremony and blessed the young couple David and Ashkhen, while restored frescoes were witnessing the ceremony.
