Holy Cross church of Mec Aragyal was re-blessed PDF Print E-mail

October 12, 2015 was a joyful day in Mec Aragyal village, Ninotsminda, where the locals and guests were welcomed in a recently renovated Holy Cross church (built in 1830) with a new yard and premises. The church was renovated with a donation, generously awarded by Arthur and Aida Isoyans. Azat Mghdesyan was the architect who, designed the reconstruction project, together with Armen Ghukasyan, the designer who worked on sculptures.

Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanian, the Primate of Armenian Diocese of Georgia held the Drnbatsek (Opening of doors) ceremony in the renovated church. On the next day, October 13, the ancient church was re-blessed with participation of Very Reverend Father Babgen Salibyan, Pastor of Samtskhe-Javakheti region, Very Reverend Father Khoren Hovhannisyan, Pastor of Armenian communities in Kvemo-Kartli region and other religious representatives. The re-blessing ceremony was led by the Primate, Vazgen Mirzakhanian.

The Armenian community was extremely glad to see the church reopened and full of local residents, as well as hear the bells of Sunday liturgy ring. The liturgy was delivered by Pastor of Saint Sarkis church (Ninotsminda), Father Armash Poghosyan.

The dream of Arthur and Aida Isoyans also came true. They married and strengthened their Armenian family in the re-blessed church.

Members of Georgian Parliament: Samvel Petrosyan, Henzel Mkoyan, representative of Samtskhe-Javakheti regional governor Akaki Machutadze, heads of regional administrations in Akhalkalaki and Ninotsminda regions, Edward Aghasaryan and Gagik Karslyan, heads of community councils, Hamlet Movsisyan and Smbat Kyureghyan, the delegation of Ministry of Culture of Republic of Armenia led by Vahan Eghiazaryan, world wrestling champion Arthur Aleksanyan were present at the ceremony and liturgy. The oblation (bread and butter) was distributed to the people.

A gorgeous concert followed in Cultural and Youth Center of Ninotsminda, which was led by a famous intellectual Jora Snkhchyan. Sayat Nova folk ensemble of Armenian Public Radio led by Tovmas Poghosyan, National Artist of Republic of Armenia, Karin folk dance ensemble led by Gagik Ginosyan, as well as talented singer Arsen Grigoryan arrived to participate in the concert. The benefactor family then hosted a dinner for this reason.

Mec Aragyal village is located 8 km away from Ninotsminda on left side of Parvana river. Armenians resettled there in 1830s. Currently 15 Armenian families live there: descendants of Brdonq village in Erzrum. After settling in this village, they built Saint Cross church, based on three pillars.
